Day 173 | Tuesday, 8 September 2020
OK – This week use exercise group #2 A Beginning: God's Faithfulness “Day after day, an abundance of God's love, morning by morning, new signs of blessing: A gentle rain, an awesome sunset, a friend's embrace, a child's smile, a new insight, a sense of peace, a shared meal, a treasured moment. All around us and deep within us are signs of God's presence. How can we not sing of God's faithfulness? HYMN – Great is Thy Faithfulness
2. “Summer and winter and spring-time and harvest, sun, moon, and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love. Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!” 3. “Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!” Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!” A Prayer of Confession: “Generous God, faithful Friend, in the depths of our hearts we know that we are linked to you; we know we are most whole when we are centered in your love. Yet with painful awareness, we know how often we stray from our true center. We organize our lives around our need and our greed, forever fretting, often doubting your promise of care. We wall up our compassion and close our eyes to hurt. We end up tense, cautious and defensive. Generous God, faithful Friend, restore our trust in you. Let us relax into your grace and discover again the joy and power of sharing. Let us know the pleasure of being with others on the journey of faith, who give with glad and joyful hearts. Let our gifts and our lives make a difference in the unfolding of your new community on earth. Amen.” An Affirmation of Faith: The Faithfulness of God (Psalm 25:10; 36:5; 89:1-2, 5; 91:4; 92:2; 100:5; 115:1; 117:2) “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness. For we believe that the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. We believe that all the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees. We believe God's steadfast love extends to the heavens, the LORD'S faithfulness to the clouds. l We believe the Most High will cover us with his pinions, and under his wings we will find refuge; the faithfulness of the Almighty is a shield and buckler. We will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever; with our mouths we will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. We declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. For we believe it is good to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night. So, let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For we believe that great is God's steadfast love toward us, and that the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD! Gracious God, thank you for your faithfulness to we your children. We need to feel that assurance. Be with our country as we mourn the nearly 190,000 deaths due to COVID-19. Assure us once again of your faithfulness. Lord, hear our prayers. Amen Today: the opening of some school districts – teachers, parents and students.
