Day 238 | Thursday, 12 November 2020
A Beginning “Something inside, so strong, pulls us, beckons us: some presence in the still of night; a sense of peace on a frantic day; a fragment of a dream that bears much promise. Something inside, so strong, steadies us, calms us: a quiet confidence that we will make it through; a growing faith that we are not alone; a sense of wonder that opens new vistas. Something inside, so strong, calls us to this time together. Something inside, so strong causes us to pray.” An Invocation: “God of our ancestors, you were their help in ages past, and there is no other to whom we can turn. We ask you, Lord, to stay our hearts on this thought in the midst of our fleeting and hectic hours. For you there is no shadow of turning; overall our change you have watched unchanged. Open our eyes to your everlasting presence now, that we may together be still, and know, that you are God.” A Prayer for the Power of The Holy Spirit “When you ascended into heaven, O Lord, you promised that you would not leave us comfortless, and that you would send One in your name, to strengthen and guide us, to bring to remembrance your words and to spread love and joy in our hearts till you come again. Lord, now we ask that the Spirit may fall upon us, to bring us that refreshing and renewing reign of your grace: Rest upon us, O Spirit of wisdom and understanding, Spirit of counsel and might, Spirit of knowledge and of inspiration! For with you is plenty of peace and joy and power. Come, Holy Spirit. Glorify the Son in us. Amen.” A Prayer for Those Who Protect Our Lives “Giver of life, we pray today for men and women who protect our lives, often at great risk to themselves. Help us to be mindful of our debt to them and generous in our recognition of their service. We pray for members of our armed forces: While doing what needs doing to safeguard our nation, may they remain lovers of peace. We pray for doctors and nurses: may they reflect in their work the spirit of the Great Physician. We pray for firefighters and members of our Coast Guard; assist them in their life saving battles with the elements. We pray for bus drivers, railroad conductors, airplane pilots and others in transportation: give them sound judgment for faithful, split second decisions. We pray for members of our police forces: may they enforce the law humanly, effectively and impartially. Oh God, help us all to care more about each other's lives then about our own. In the name of him who gave his young life for us, that we might live forgiven, free and at peace; Jesus Christ, our living Lord. Amen” A Blessing: “Now may you who are led by the Spirit of God, claim your inheritance as children of God's heavenly kingdom. Rejoice! Our God is with us forever and ever. Amen.” A Quotation: “What really matters is what happens in us, not to us.” -James Kennedy
