Day 82 | Tuesday, 9 June 2020
Do any of you want any Lupine seeds for around your home? Ann purchased a 5lb bag. If you want some I will come around and tell you how to plant them. One of the joys of living here is that every year since we have been here there have been ducklings born and on the pond. This year has been delightful to watch the brood. They would hide with mama until they were big enough to come out and swim around in the pond. Lately, mama has been bringing her clan up the bank and to a few homes where they feed under the bird feeders. They travel in a pack. At first mom was right in the middle. Now as I watch her, she is hanging back and letting the children wander up to the feeding areas. However, she is not far away. There is nothing passive about her movements. All at once, she defends, (just ask Carolyn), she instructs, and she provides. One of these days she will be teaching them how to fly. We also have red winged black birds nesting in the cattails around the pond. One day last week I saw wild turkeys (the ones with feathers), one male and six females. We have had a bear and we have deer. There are blue herons that come to our pond and of course the chorus of frogs. Many other varieties of birds grace us with song as well. You might even see a bunny hopping around the place. Like the mama duck, God watches over us – protecting, instructing and providing. God is an awesome God. I am breaking my own rule again by quoting just one verse in three versions. Isaiah 31:5 CEB “5 Like birds flying aloft, so the Lord of heavenly forces will shield Jerusalem: shielding and saving, sparing and rescuing.” NRSV “5 Like birds hovering, so the LORD of hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it, he will spare and rescue it.” NIV “5 Like birds hovering overhead, the LORD Almighty will shield Jerusalem; he will shield it and deliver it, he will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it.” Hovering God, we are so grateful that you watch over us. We are so grateful that you are protecting us, that you are instructing us and that you are providing for us. We enjoy watching the wildlife here. Thank you for your creatures and all that they provide for us. We are just amazed at all you provide. Give us hearts of gratitude and forever singing your praise. Hear our prayers. Amen Today: God’s creatures
